A man grieves at the foot of a grave, likely in the 1990s. (Photographer: Unknown)
This image is believed to depict a Palestinian man weeping over a lost loved one. However, there is virtually no available information to verify the setting, date, or photographer. The original image was evidently electronically scanned which means there is a physical copy of this image somewhere. A quick investigation reveals that this photograph has been used over the past ten years in articles related to the Nakba, or “catastrophe”, that marks the forced displacement of roughly 700,000 Palestinians from their homes and the depopulation and destruction of over 500 Palestinian villages and towns during the establishment of the Israeli state in the late 1940s.
